Growing up as a sea gypsy in the South China Sea off the coast of Vietnam, Vinh has always been immersed in a culture of fishing and seafood. Vinh and Yen met in Houston, Texas after they both resettled from a refugee camp in the Philippines, fleeing the Vietnamese communist regime. After moving to Durham in 1998, Yen and Vinh were astounded by the lack of flavorful seafood in the area. They sought after authentic maritime cuisine cooked with an abundance of spices. With input and guidance from Vinh’s family in Lake Charles, Louisiana they opened Blue Stingray Seafood Restaurant in the summer of 2014.
